Park Closed - Under Construction Update - 2021

The boat launch will be closed, excluding the Memorial Day and July Fourth holiday weekends. New Look Contracting hopes to be able to open the launch for additional weekend access, however that is determined week-by-week.

Please note, when the boat landing is open there will be safety fencing placed to separate the boat landing driveway access from the construction site. Parking is available for boat trailers and playground/dog park access along Gary Street.

As a reminder, the beach will not be open this summer.

The playground will remain open until mid-summer, however you must access it by walking from the south side of the park and can also park in the back of City Hall parking lot to walk over.

The dog park will remain open throughout the course of construction and can be accessed similar to the playground from the south end.

Regular updates will be posted on the Active Elk River website here.

 Park Info

18599 Gary Street - Home to a new destination playground, Orono Park is a family friendly 28-acre park located on the west shore of Lake Orono south of Highway 10.

The park is the hub of many civic amenities, including the City Hall Campus, the Library, the YMCA and the Sherburne County Fairgrounds.

City Council approved the updated Orono Park Master Plan on July 17, 2017. The revised park master plan recommended from the Parks and Recreation Commission highlights the park with reconfigured parking lots, expanded beach area, open recreation lawn, Kayak/SUP rental facility, larger splash pad, lighted pickleball and basketball courts and a fitness area. Staff will review the park features in the plan to develop an overall park capital improvement plan.  View plan.

The Orono Park playground is featured in the Landscape Structures "Playground Inspirations" catalog.  The catalog is distributed worldwide and over 100,000 are printed.  See it here.
