169 Redefine Open House Meeting Materials Available Online

Just in case you missed the Minnesota Department of Transportation's (MnDOT) 169 Redefine project open house on October 29, we've got all the material that was presented to the community on Elk River's designated project web page here.

Wow - what a turn out for this event! Hundreds of people stopped by Elk River City Hall to learn about MnDOT's plan to convert Highway 169 to a freeway, view layouts, timelines, and ask questions to MnDOT, city and Sherburne County staff members.  Never miss an update on the 169 Redefine project by signing up for Notify Me, the city's online alert system.

Active Elk River - October 2019 Progress Report

Active Elk River Progress Report - October 2019

A rainy October posed some challenges for Active Elk River construction crews, however that didn't stop them from making great progress on the new multipurpose facility and Lion John Weicht Park over the last 31 days. A third Active Elk River project also got underway this month at the Youth Athletic Complex!

Click here to check out the October 2019 Active Elk River Progress Report to learn which project milestones have been hit during the last month, view updated construction photos, and more!

Also, you won't want to miss the latest time lapse video from the site of the new multipurpose facility. This video spans October 11 to October 21, when crews were busy completing the foundation footings for the building’s perimeter, and masons continued blockwork to encompass the locker rooms and other offices on the western side of the new facility.

We can’t wait for the next time lapse in a few weeks, as the majority of underground work is now complete and the building has officially gone vertical! For more information on Active Elk River projects, timelines, and more visit ActiveElkRiver.com.

Snow Event Parking Reminder

Snow Event Overnight
Parking Reminder

Unlike many cities, Elk River allows residential street parking year round except during a Snow Event.  A Snow Event is declared with a forecast of falling/blowing snow accumulation of 1.5+ inches, and/or freezing rain, sleet, or other winter weather patterns resulting in hazardous roadway conditions. The Snow Event terminates once weather conditions have improved.

During a declared Snow Event, overnight street and city-owned lot parking is prohibited from 2:00 to 6:00 a.m. Plow operators will dispatch police to ticket and tow, per city ordinance, all illegally parked vehicles.

Please note one additional parking restriction. The upper parking lot behind Blue Egg Bakery, Daddy-O’s, Occasional Fling, etc. is a No Parking zone during a Snow Event due to safety concerns with snowpack/ice and the inability to maneuver plow trucks around parked cars.

Dedicated overnight Snow Event parking has expanded from the original 26 spaces along the north side of the King Avenue lot to include the 23 lower lot spaces closest to the Mississippi River behind the aforementioned businesses. Click here for map, and be sure to visit ElkRiverMN.gov/SnowEvent for additional information.

Volunteer of the Month, Ray Ott

Please join us in congratulating and thanking Ray Ott, Elk River’s October Volunteer of the Month. In fact he has selflessly given over 1,000 hours of his time to the Elk River community through his involvement in food rescue, outreach, special events, fundraising, and by assisting clients and volunteers at CAER.

Ray Ott, thank you for all of the ways you make life better for others in our community – we appreciate you and all you do!
