169 Corridor Sound Measurement Testing

169 Redefine Update - Noise
Measurement Study Underway

You may have noticed some action in the Hwy 169 corridor this week, as crews completed noise measurement testing in four separate locations as part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s (MnDOT)169 Redefine project. Noise measurements are conducted at a time when there is minimal traffic congestion to obtain the most accurate snapshot of traffic noise within a given area. MnDOT will use these measurements to create a noise model which will be used to determine if and where sound barriers are needed to help reduce the impact of current and future traffic noise.

For more on MnDOT’s plan to convert Hwy 169 to a freeway, be sure to stop by the 169 Redefine public open house on Tuesday, October 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elk River City Hall, located at 13065 Orono Parkway. Additional project information can also be found online here.

Flag Runner Donation to City of Elk River

Elk River Flag Runners
Donate $4,400 to City

At the Monday, October 7 City Council meeting, the Elk River Flag Runners, represented in this photo by Michael Kaufmann, presented a donation of $4,400 to Mayor Dietz and Councilmember Wagner. The Flag Runners began raising money earlier this year to fund the installation of a park flagpole to support the Elk River American Legion’s annual Memorial Day event.

Thanks to the efforts of the Flag Runners and a partnership between the Legion and the City of Elk River, a plan that not only provides a home for the Memorial Day event, but also recognition of our nation’s veterans as a whole will soon come to fruition. The donation will be used to help relocate the veterans memorial located on Highway 10 just east of Oxford Avenue to Lion John Weicht Park. Lion John Weicht Park is currently undergoing construction of softball fields and picnic shelter, green space and restroom amenities funded through the Active Elk River project.
