Compost Site Closure Oct. 2-3

Compost Site Closure October 2-3

The last several months have been very busy at the Elk River Compost Site and we owe a huge thank you to residents using the site properly, as well as those reporting illegal dumping. Without all of you, we may have been forced to close and we certainly wouldn’t be at material capacity at the site. We want to give everyone plenty of room to dispose of their fall yard waste and other items, but first we need a contractor to remove the tremendous amount of material currently there. This will result in a two-day closure of the Elk River Compost Site from Wednesday, October 2 through Thursday, October 3. We apologize for any inconvenience, and encourage residents to explore other yard waste and compost sites in the area if in need during the closure by visiting Sherburne County's website

The Elk River Compost Site is located at 19000 Proctor Road NW, behind the Maintenance Facility. Compost site users must have an access pass which requires them to be a resident of Sherburne County. To learn more, please click here.

Sherburne County Roundabout Project Complete

Sherburne Co. Roundabout Projects Completed and Open to Motorists

Look what’s OPEN! Construction of the two roundabouts along Twin Lake Road (CSAH 13) at Cleveland St. (CR 40) and at Viking Blvd. (CSAH 33) has wrapped up and the areas are once again open to motorists. This Sherburne County project began in mid-July, with the goal of constructing these two single-lane roundabouts to reduce intersection delay, maintain traffic flow and improve safety along the corridor.

While both roundabouts are now open, please use extra caution while navigating through this new traffic pattern and be aware crews are still on site working on signage and street lighting.

Food Truck FAQs Answered

Food Truck FAQs Answered

At this time last year, City Hall was flooded with last-minute requests for food truck permits, to accommodate fall festivals, Halloween gatherings and other events. Here’s the 4-1-1 on food trucks so that if you have an interest in working in Elk River, you’re prepared with the right information and documents to obtain your permit within 30 days of application submission.

Get your food truck permit by filling out the Mobile Food Unit Application available here: ElkRiverMN.gov/foodtrucks. Your application must be submitted with the $100 annual permit fee, certificate of insurance totaling $1,000,000, and proof of Minnesota Department of Health and/or Department of Agriculture license. For additional information or questions, contact Elk River’s Deputy Clerk at 763.635.1004.

Lost or Found Pet Protocol in Elk River

ERPD Lost/Found Pet Protocol

Many people see posts like this every day on social media – residents either looking for a lost pet, or someone trying to reunite a pet and its owner. In the event you come across a stray cat or dog please contact the Elk River Police Department. They have friendly Community Service Officers who are trained to deal with domesticated animals. The animal will be transported to a warm and inviting kennel at Barrington Oaks until they are reunited with their loving family.

While we appreciate all of the good people who try to reunite pets and their owners themselves, it is best (and safest) for people and pets to leave it up to the professionals. Simply dial 911, explain to the dispatcher the situation and they will send out one of our representatives to assist you.

Elk River Public Arts Plan - Survey

Public Arts Plan - Take the Survey

Just a few days left to weigh in on Elk River's Public Arts Plan by taking a short online survey before the deadline of October 1.

Art in public spaces continues to be recognized as an effective way to engage citizens from varying demographics, strengthen connections to a community, and increase overall quality of life. Elk River’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) has been in the midst of developing a Public Arts Plan and your feedback is needed to help shape the future of public art in our community. Survey results will be reviewed by the EDA and considered as Elk River’s Public Arts Plan continues to develop. One survey per person, please.
