Multipurpose Facility Time Lapse

Check out what has been happening at the site of the new Multipurpose Facility from August 15 to September 12 by watching a cool time lapse video on the city's Facebook page! Since the completion of The Barn demo crews have been concentrating on bringing the site up to the proper grade and prepping for footings. This week the new water line installation was completed and rebar layouts for the building’s foundation got underway.

The Multipurpose Facility is one of several projects that make up the Active Elk River plan, made possible by the voters of Elk River. Information on Active Elk River can be found here.

Proctor Ave. Open House

CSAH 1 (Proctor Ave.) Reconstruction Open House, Sept. 18

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Sherburne County, and the City of Elk River will host a public open house on Wednesday, September 18 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Elk River City Hall to discuss the CSAH 1 (Proctor Avenue) reconstruction project. The project scope spans Proctor Avenue from the railroad crossing south of School Street to Hwy 10 and is planned for construction in 2020. To improve accessibility and safety, the project proposal outlines the reconstruction of Proctor Avenue which includes adding a raised median and designated turn lanes. Information will also be available about MnDOT’s Hwy 10 reconstruction from Xenia Avenue to Lowell Avenue, which is slated to begin in 2021.

This public open house is the perfect time to learn about both projects from county, city and MnDOT staff, ask questions, and address any concerns.

For more information, please contact Deputy Sherburne County Engineer, David Roedel at 763.765.3352.

Safest Cities to Live in MN

Study Names Elk River No. 18
'Safest Cities to Live in Minnesota'

According to a study by BackgroundChecks.org, an online directory of public records and background information, Elk River ranks No. 18 on its “Safest Cities to Live in Minnesota” list. Researchers used FBI crime stats to calculate rankings that considered violent crime and property crime rates of cities with 10,000+ residents. The ratio of law enforcement to the city’s population was also a factor in determining a city’s safety index score. Elk River’s safety index is 0.3, with the No. 1 ranked city, Big Lake, coming in with a 0.51 index score. The list was rounded out with Minneapolis coming in at No. 88.
