Active Elk River - School Street Closure Starts Monday, Aug. 19

As utility work from Lion John Weicht Park to the new Multipurpose Facility progresses, a three-day closure of School Street is required to allow crews to continue stormwater pipe installation as quickly and efficiently as possible. Starting Monday, August 19, School Street will be closed from Proctor Avenue (County Road 1) to Jackson Street until Wednesday, August 21

This detour map will guide motorists to an alternate route during this closure, and all access will be maintained to residents, schools and businesses along School Street while this work is completed. Access to the Elk River High School parking lot will be available from the east using the main parking lot entrance at the Lions Park Drive stoplight. Utility work will be taking place west of the lot entrance.

ERFD Training at Lions Park

ERFD Uses Building at Lion John Weicht Park for Training Before Demo

Check out a behind-the-scenes look at an Elk River Fire Department (ERFD) training exercise that took place last week at Lion John Weicht Park.

Members of ERFD utilized the building on site, which is set for demolition soon as part of the Active Elk River project, to practice victim search and rescue, air management, large area searches, forceful entry and command. Deputy Fire Chief and Deputy Director of Emergency Management Aaron Surratt said this was an excellent training opportunity with a building of this type, especially considering Elk River is not within close proximity to a fire training facility.
