Lions Park Utility Work Underway

**Active Elk River Update**
Utility Work Starts Monday, Aug. 12

On Monday, August 12, crews will begin utility installation starting at Lion John Weicht Park, traveling under School Street and connecting to the new Multipurpose Facility as part of the Active Elk River project. Underground utility work will take place in three phases (see map) outlined below:

  • Monday, August 12 - Lions Park Drive will close for one week. Alternate access to nearby apartments and businesses will be provided. The northern portion of Lion John Weicht Park will close until fall 2020.
  • Friday, August 16 – Utility work under School St. will begin. Expect coordinated lane reductions as crews move north across School St.
  • Friday, August 23 – Crews will move from School St. to the Elk River High School parking lot in order to make the final connection to the new Multipurpose Facility.

Crews hope to have all this utility installation complete by (or before) Friday, August 30 weather depending. For everything Active Elk River, including construction updates, photos, renderings and more visit ActiveElkRiver.com.

169 Redefine

169 Redefine Summer Update

Plan for a public open house about the 169 Redefine project sometime this fall. We'll keep you in the loop as dates/times/locations are determined!

In the meantime, expect to continue seeing Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) crews out gathering data along Hwy 169 for the future 2023-2024 169 Redefine project. Crews will be surveying locations, gathering traffic and pedestrian counts, monitoring noise levels, obtaining soil and water samples, inspecting below ground infrastructure, and more. The work may require temporary lane or shoulder closures. Watch for road signs, workers and equipment in the area. This work will continue through August.

For more information on MnDOT’s plan to convert Hwy 169 to a freeway through Elk River click here. Also, be sure to sign up for Notify Me, the city’s online alert system which sends an email or text message straight to you whenever new information about this project becomes available.

Public Art Survey

Elk River Public Art Survey

Art in public spaces continues to be recognized as an effective way to engage citizens from varying demographics, strengthen connections to a community, and increase overall quality of life. Elk River’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) is in the midst of developing a Public Arts Plan – and now your feedback is needed to help shape the future of public art in our community.

Click here to take a four-question survey, available now through October 1. Survey results will be reviewed by the EDA and considered as Elk River’s Public Arts Plan continues to develop. One survey per person, please.

Night to Unite Success

Night to Unite Success

2019 Night to Unite was a huge success, and we couldn't have done it without all of you! Elk River residents hosted 65 neighborhood parties (up from 57 in 2018)  where residents had the opportunity to get to know their neighbors, chat with local law enforcement officials, and ultimately build a safer community.
