Pothole Repair

Pothole Repair on Main Street

Public Works crews joined forces with the Minnesota Department of Transportation today to patch a large area of Main Street just east of Highway 169 where numerous potholes had formed. Crews have been responding to pothole reports throughout the winter, filling problem areas with a temporary cold-patch material meant to full holes/cracks and provide a cushion for vehicle travel.

Now that hot-mix, a hardening asphalt mixture is available again (although in very high demand), you’ll see crews continuing to address potholes around the city in an effort to provide the best roadway surface possible to those traveling in and around Elk River.

To report a pothole, please fill out the online form available on the city's website, or call Elk River Public Works at 763.635.1120.

Stay Informed About the
'169 Redefine' Project with Notify Me

On Wednesday, March 20 ABRA Auto Body & Glass was the site of an Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce Jumpstart session, where Public Works Director/Chief Engineer Justin Femrite spoke to attendees about 169 Redefine. Femrite provided an overview of this Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) project which will convert Highway 169 into a freeway, removing five stoplights from the Mississippi River north through Elk River, in addition to some history about the corridor and a timeline for work to begin.

Currently, MnDOT is in the very early phases of design, with an estimated construction start date of 2023. Residents are invited to stay in-the-know about 169 Redefine by signing up for Notify Me, the city’s online notification system, to receive updates straight to your email or cell phone, whenever new information becomes available. Learn more about 169 Redefine by visiting Elk River’s designated project webpage available here.
