Early Voting Extended Hours

Special Saturday Hours at
City Hall for Early Voting Nov. 3

Next Saturday, November 3, both Elk River City Hall and the Sherburne County Government Center are offering extended weekend hours from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for early voting. Come in and cast your ballot at either location (please remember, City Hall is only for Elk River residents) or Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until November 5.

Best Cities to Live in in America - Elk River No 30

Elk River Makes National List of
'50 Best Cities to Live in America'

According to a study by 24/7 Wall St., an online financial news company, Elk River ranks No. 30 on its “America’s 50 Best Cities to Live” list. Researchers examined cities with populations of 8,000+, comparing more than two-dozen quality of life influences including crime rate, cost of living, parks and outdoor amenities, employment opportunities and more. 24/7 Wall St. noted Elk River’s low poverty rate, higher annual income of residents, and low violent crime rate, compared to the national averages.

Anoka and Elk River Northstar Train Options for Halloween

Spooky Halloween Fun in the Area

Looking for some spooky Halloween activities for your family this weekend? Anoka, the “Halloween Capital of the World” is hosting its annual “World’s Largest Halloween Celebration” this Saturday, October 27, and Metro Transit is making it easier than ever to get there to enjoy the parade, 5k run, carnival and more! Ride the Northstar Train from the Elk River Station at 10:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m., and a FREE shuttle from the Anoka Station will bring train customers to and from downtown Anoka. Be sure to head back to Elk River on the 4:27 p.m. Northstar Train, as the 19th annual Spooktacular kicks off at Lion John Weicht Park at 5:00 p.m. and runs through 8:00 p.m. Toddlers to teens are invited to dress up in their best costume for a night of trick-or-treating from participating businesses and organizations, games, a DJ and hay ride, bounce houses, bingo, and more! There will be individual costume contests for kids up to age 4, another for ages 5 to 13, as well as a group/family category for three or more people. Discounted tickets ($3 per participant) are available online here until 4:30 p.m. TODAY (Friday, October 26). Tickets will also be sold at the door for $5 per participant. Keep in mind, the fee is for those participating in the activities, parents and guardians accompanying children are free of charge.

Elk River has approximately 150 regular full- and part-time employees in a variety of occupations, all of which play a role in ensuring top notch operations and city services are provided to you, the residents!

Councilmember Jerry Olsen (Ward 1) spent some time at Dave Anderson Athletic Complex recently, gaining some hands-on insight into what it takes to prep and maintain Elk River’s many athletic fields. We captured it as part of Elk River’s new video series “Inside Elk River” documenting Councilmember Olsen’s experience as a member of the city’s parks maintenance team. Stay tuned for this video, and others as each of our elected official try out different city jobs in the near future!
