Playground Upgrade Design Image

Playground Upgrade Coming to Deerfield Hill Park

The playground at Deerfield Hill Park (19210 Carson Street) is getting a makeover – after serving area youth with slides, swings, and outdoor fun for more than 26 years! Elk River Parks and Recreation staff members have already started prepping the site for the new play structure, which will double in size compared to the current playground. Residents are welcome to enjoy the park until removal of the old equipment begins in early August, at which time the park will close until mid-September (weather depending) for the installation of the new equipment. The new equipment will include ADA accessible features, and play structures for children of all ages, not to mention park-goer favorites like the boogie board, oodle swing, and roller slide. It’ll also incorporate new features like the space walk, vertical ladder, and portal climber, as well.

Deerfield Hill Park is one of the highest points in Elk River, with beautiful views of the surrounding area. Wanting to capitalize on the picturesque sights, playground designers have incorporated a 12-foot center platform with multiple slides as the centerpiece of the new structure.

Highway 10, Clear Lake to Big Lake Traffic Pattern Change

Attention motorists who routinely travel Highway 10 between Big Lake and Clear Lake, please plan for additional travel time through the area as a series of traffic pattern changes are starting today (Friday, July 20). The following changes are needed while crews prepare the road to become a single lane in each direction starting the week of July 23:

  • Eastbound Highway 10 at Highway 24 in Clear Lake, and County Road 17 west of Big Lake, reduced to a single lane 24/7.
  • Westbound Highway 10 at Lakeshore Drive in Big Lake, reduced to a single lane 24/7.
  • Lane closures in both directions of Highway 10 starting Friday, July 20 through Thursday, July 26.
  • On Thursday, July 26 the existing lanes of eastbound Highway 10 will close, and Highway 10 between Clear Lake and Big Lake will become a single lane in each direction with head-to-head traffic on the westbound side of the roadway.
  • A temporary signal will be installed at Highway 10 and Highway 25 in Becker.

All businesses along Highway 10 will remain accessible during construction, which crews expect to be complete in October. Please use extra caution when traveling through the area. These closures and traffic pattern changes are part of a major safety and mobility improvement project through the corridor. Cover of Minnesota Magazine Featuring Elk River

Elk River Featured on Cover of 'Minnesota Cities' Ma

The City of Elk River made the cover of the July/August edition of Minnesota Cities magazine, a publication by the League of Minnesota Cities, for the addition of an electronic vehicle to the city’s fleet. The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) features two electric motors and a gasoline engine which work together to ensure optimal performance depending on the driving conditions, all while reducing emissions and saving money. Environmental Coordinator, Amanda Bednar (pictured) says the city signed a three-year lease for the Outlander PHEV, and multiple departments are using it with the goal of determining whether or not this, or other electric vehicles should become a permanent addition to the city’s fleet.
