Open Filing for Mayor, Ward 1 and Ward 4 Through June 5

Do you have a passion for your community? Do you want an active role in identifying and communicating a clear vision for the future of Elk River? Consider becoming a councilmember!

The City of Elk River is accepting applications for Mayor, Ward 1 and Ward 4 to be on the August 14 primary election ballot. Interested residents must complete the Affidavit of Candidacy form and submit it in-person at City Hall by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5. Affidavit of Candidacy forms can be found at City Hall, or online here. Please note a $5 fee is due at the time of filing. Eligible candidates must have maintained residency in their respective Ward for at least 30 days. All positions are four-year terms set to begin on January 7, 2019.

Important Reminder on Compost Site

Elk River Compost Facility users - Acceptable materials for the Elk River Compost Facility include:

  • brush 
  • logs under 6 inches diameter
  • leaves and grass clippings
  • Please remember to remove all garbage bags and other non-compostable materials before dumping your clippings. Materials that are not accepted include: 
  • stumps
  • logs greater than 6 inches diameter
  • non-compostable materials such as garbage bags and other 
  • household goods.
These items require additional time and staff resources to separate and properly dispose of taking resources away from other city improvements. Thank you for your cooperation.

Elections 2018

Seeking Election Judges

Election Judges are essential to our democracy! Election judges staff polling places, administer election procedures and ensure the rights of voters are protected on Election Day. The city needs about 100 elections judges for the August 14, 2018, Primary Election, and the November 6, 2018, General Election.
To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be eligible to vote.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Not be a spouse, parent, child, or sibling of a candidate on the ballot in the same precinct.
  • Complete a mandatory two-hour online election judge training. A link to the training will be emailed to you when you are hired.
  • Pay is $9.65 per hour.

*Updated* Highway 10 - Lake Orono Bridge Project 

Eastbound Highway 10 is reduced to a single lane of traffic 24/7 between Joplin St and Upland Ave in Elk River. Westbound is open to two narrow lanes with periodic lane closures. Reduced speeds of 45 mph both directions through the work zone. Crews are currently in the process of reconstructing the westbound lanes and bridge.
