Elk RiverFest 2020 - Feedback Needed

Elk RiverFest 2020 - Input Needed

If you haven’t already, be sure to mark your calendars for Elk RiverFest, held on the first Saturday in July, and this year the community celebration falls on Independence Day! From 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, downtown Elk River will be the place to be offering shopping, food, drinks, live music, kids activities, and so much more!

Plans for Elk RiverFest 2020 are already well underway, and we wanted to know your thoughts on what you’d like to see in the Kids Zone this summer! Comment with your vote on the Parks and Recreation Facebook post (1, 2, or 3) otherwise feel free to offer other suggestions in the comment section as well!

  1. Bring back mini golf, we loved it!
  2. Inflatables, inflatables, and MORE inflatables!
  3. The carnival games are great - we need more!

More than 7,000 people attended Elk RiverFest in 2019, and city staff members will periodically ask for feedback on various festival-related topics to ensure this year is the best yet!

GRE Falcon Nesting Box Relocation

GRE Falcon Nesting Box Relocated

In September 2019, Great River Energy (GRE) announced plans to decommission and demolish the Elk River Energy Recovery Station, located on the north side of Highway 10. This process is already underway, and many have asked what will happen to the peregrine falcons who’ve called a nesting box atop the facility home for more than a decade – good news, GRE staff have found a new home with some familiarity for the falcons who will likely return in the spring. Check this article out for additional information.

A representative from GRE said right now crews are carefully disposing of materials and equipment inside the plant as part of the decommissioning process. This will continue through most of the winter, and people can expect to see more visual changes begin outside sometime this spring

Woodland Winter Walking Events

Winter Walking Events at Woodland

When you live in Minnesota, cabin fever can be all too real. That's why it's important to find an outdoor activity/hobby to enjoy during the long winter months.

Elk River Parks and Recreation is hosting a series of magical moonlit walks at Woodland Trails Regional Park, with the next walk set for Monday, February 10. This professionally guided walk, led by two Woodland Trails park volunteers, will lead attendees along the most beautiful groomed winter trails in search of both serenity and wildlife.

Look for the group in the parking lot of Woodland Trails Regional Park located at 20135 Elk Lake Rd. NW at 6:00 p.m. Bring a flashlight or head lamp and be sure to dress for the weather and wear proper winter walking shoes or boots. Can't make the February 10 walk?
