Snow Event In Effect

Snow Event In Effect
Jan. 17 - Further Notice

The City of Elk River has declared a Snow Event. This means winter parking restrictions are in place prohibiting overnight parking on all city streets and city-owned parking lots between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Plow operators will dispatch police to ticket and tow, per city ordinance, all illegally parked vehicles.

Dedicated overnight Snow Event parking has expanded from the original 26 spaces along the north side of the King Avenue lot to include the 23 lower lot spaces closest to the Mississippi River behind the aforementioned businesses. View the map here for additional clarity.

Nightly parking restrictions will remain in effect until the Snow Event has been lifted by city staff.

Visit ElkRiverMN.gov/SnowEvent for additional information on Elk River Snow Events, a list of FAQs and more.

In the near future, we’ll release a video project that has been months in the making. It’s a rare inside look at the different police divisions, specialized units, real-life scenarios and training exercises that make up ERPD.

Trash Carts and Plow Operations

Trash Carts and Plow Operations

Some things function best when kept upright - trash carts are one such item. With lots of snow on the way over the next few days Elk River plow operators will be out in full force for the next several days. Just a friendly reminder, if it’s your trash/recycling collection day, keep those cans on the end of your driveway not on the street. Plow operators do their best to avoid obstructions like the one pictured (taken from the seat of a plow) however with large snow events carts can be easily hidden and if in the right-of-way they’re subject to damage.

Garbage collection trucks are able to utilize the long arms they’re equipped with to empty your carts, and plow operators are able to do the most efficient clearing possible on your street! Win, win! Additionally, city staff members have contacted Elk River’s collection companies to remind them of the importance of placing carts back in driveways after collection, not in the right-of-way.
