Holiday Closures and Trash Delays

New Year's Closure, Trash Delay

All city offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s, with trash and recycling collection delayed by one day. Police, Fire, and EMS operations will remain in service at all times.

Elk River Municipal Utilities is asking for assistance spreading the word about an error in trash collection holiday schedules. Some customers received a message on their December bill stating that all trash pickups would be delayed the week of New Year's Day. However, only pickups scheduled for Wednesday, January 1 and Thursday, January 2 will be delayed by one day that week.

Live Christmas Tree Recycling

Recycle Live Christmas Trees
at the Elk River Compost Site

While free curbside Christmas tree recycling is not available through the city’s waste collection companies, residents wanting to dispose of a live tree after the holidays can do so at the Elk River Compost Site located at 19000 Proctor Road NW.

The tree does not have to have to be cut up at all, however please ensure that all decorations, including lights, ornaments, and ribbons, are removed and tree is not in any sort of bag prior to drop off. Compost Site users must have an access pass which requires them to be a resident of Sherburne County. To learn more, please visit ElkRiverMN.gov/compost.

Skating Rinks Closed Until Further Notice

CLOSED: Outdoor Skating Rinks

Heads up, everyone! Elk River's outdoor skating rinks are closed until further notice! Mild temperatures have created unsafe ice conditions and with current forecasts continuing to be above average, Public Works crews likely won't be able to flood rinks until after the New Year. Please check the city's websiteFacebook page, and Twitter as we'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as rinks are able to be reopened.

The City of Elk River reserves the right to close rinks whenever it is in the best interest and safety of the skaters. For up-to-date rink information, call the Weather Hotline at 763.635.1160.
