ERPD Needs Help Identifying Porch Pirate

ERPD Needs Help Identifying
This Porch Pirate

Elk River Police needs your help identifying this porch pirate who decided to make her own holidays a bit brighter by stealing from an Elk River resident’s front porch. View a security camera video on ERPD's Faebook page. If you have information about the identity of this person, please call Elk River Police at 763.635.1200.

Unfortunately, porch pirate activity increases around the holidays. Here are a few tips to consider that can help prevent this kind of crime:

  • Have your package delivered to your work.

  • Have your package delivered to the home of a relative or friend that you know will be home.

  • Have your package held at your local post office for pickup.

  • Request that your package has signature confirmation upon delivery.
  • Take advantage of “Ship to Store” option that many stores offer.

Lawns to Legumes - Make the Switch

Your Yard Can BEE the Change,
Make the Lawn Switch for Pollinators

A new initiative in 2020 by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) has people buzzing already! “Lawns to Legumes” is a program offering workshops, coaching, cost-sharing and plant guides for homeowners who swap out the traditional residential lawn with pollinator-friendly native plantings. The goal is two-fold and includes public education, and ultimately to increase populations of rusty patched bumble bees and other at-risk pollinators.

If this peaks your interest, share the idea with your neighbors! BWSR is offering grants for demonstration neighborhood sites through January 10, 2020, that showcase pollinator-friendly best practices as part of the program’s public education component. Email City of Elk River Environmental Coordinator, Amanda Erickson for additional information on the grant process.

Residents can also apply for individual funding of up to $350 in costs associated with establishing pollinator habitats on their property. For additional information on “Lawns to Legumes” or to apply for a grant, click here

Television Production Opportunity
Available at the City of Elk River

Are you someone with a background or an interest in television production, looking for part-time evening/weekend work of roughly 25 hours per week? The City of Elk River is seeking a part-time Cablecaster to run the live telecast and video/audio recording of meetings for ErTV channel 180, and the city’s website.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a daytime job seeking additional work, or a student studying video production. In addition to broadcasting meetings, this person will also assist the Cable Coordinator with promotional videos (filming, editing, post-production) used by the Communications Department to promote city events, services, or generally educate residents on a topic.
