The Elk River Police Department is now accepting applications for the popular Citizen’s Academy, a program designed to strengthen the partnership between law enforcement professionals and the community they serve. Citizen’s Academy participants will gain a better understanding of many divisions that make up ERPD including SWAT, patrol, evidence processing, crime prevention, and more. They’ll also get hands-on training in officer use of force, range shooting, and have the option to participate in a ride-along. Citizen’s Academy is an eight-week program, which meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. starting February 5 through March 26.
Space is limited and preference will be given to those who live or work in Elk River. Participants must be 21 years or older, and must be able to pass a criminal background check. Applications can be found online here, and must be submitted by December 31 via email to lcanton@ElkRiverMN.gov, in person to ERPD located at 13077 Orono Parkway, or by mail (postmarked by or before December 31).
