The Board of Appeal and Equalization has statutory responsibility to review estimated market values and property classifications in the city. Its function is to hear appeals of individual property owners and determine the correct value or classification.
If you believe the value or classification of your property is incorrect, please contact the Sherburne County Assessor to express your concerns. If you are still not satisfied with the valuation or classification after discussing it with your assessor, you may appear before the local Board of Appeal and Equalization.
The Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting typically scheduled for mid-April with the meeting located at City of Elk River, 13065 Orono Parkway, Elk River.
Board members representing Elk River are current Elk River City Council members.
At this meeting, the Board will review the valuation, classification, or both, if necessary, and correct it as needed. Generally an appearance before the local board of appeal and equalization is required by law before an appeal can be taken to the county board of appeal and equalization.
