The mission of the Street Division is to provide a safe network of streets throughout the city. We are fully committed to providing quality public service to Elk River citizens. We strive to respond promptly and courteously to citizens' requests and concerns.
The Street Division maintains 150 lane miles of streets, over 200 cul-de-sacs, and 20 parking lots. Some activities include snow plowing, ice control, crack filling, street sweeping, gravel road maintenance, right of way maintenance and the city's storm water system. Since Street activities are seasonally-based, weather and equipment availability play a large role in project timelines.
The division includes Equipment Services where mechanics repair and maintain the city fleet as well as the fleet of the Elk River Municipal Utility, and the Sherburne County Soil and Water District. A third component of the division is the Sign Shop where staff creates various roadway and directional signs for the city and urban service area.
1 Superintendent, nine Maintenance Operators, two mechanics, and two part-time Office Assistants carry out a large variety of responsibilities in all seasons and weather conditions.
