The Elk River Police Department formalized a Police Chaplain Corps in 2010. Four ordained ministers have been certified for duty by the Minnesota Emergency Service Chaplain Association. Detective Eric Balabon serves as the department liaison to the Police Chaplain Corps. Members of the Police Chaplain Corps provide emotional and spiritual support to victims of traumatic events.
