The Elk River Police Department bike team consists of a coordinator and nine bike team members. Bike team officers are able to travel faster and farther than an officer on foot and are able to reach areas not normally accessible by car. Bike team members have the advantage of being able to approach a crime scene silently and undetected. Officer on bicycles are more approachable by the public, giving officers a better opportunity to interact with the members of the community.
Bike team members work a variety of details and events including:
- Nighttime commercial and residential patrol
- Surveillance
- Parades
- Fourth of July celebration
- Sherburne County Fair
- High School football games
- Bike rodeos
- Downtown concerts
- Other special events
