Permits and Applications

Alarm Permit

The City of Elk River adopted an alarm ordinance in 2009 requiring permits for residential and commercial alarm systems that are -monitored by a third party. Please contact the Elk River Police Department at 763-635-1260 for further information on how to obtain this permit.

Gun Permit 

The Elk River Police Department will once again be accepting walk-in Permit to Purchase applications. Applications can also be submitted using the following methods:

  • Fax it to 763-635-1250
  • USPS -  13077 Orono Parkway, Elk River, MN 55330

We are no longer accepting gun permit applications via email.

A Minnesota Uniform Firearm application must be completely filled out and submitted to the Elk River Police Department. You must be an Elk River resident to qualify. There is a seven (7) day waiting period before a permit will be issued to qualifying individuals. The seven-day waiting period will begin the day we receive the application in one of the above methods.

**Please note if you currently hold or plan to apply for a permit to carry; this permit also serves as a permit to purchase.

Applications for the landowner hunting permissions must be downloaded, completed, and then submitted to Sergeant Zabee via email or in-person to the Elk River Police Department.
