Garbage and Recycling

The City of Elk River arranges for the collection of residential refuse, recycling, and organics. Under the current program, the city is divided into two collection districts. Each district is served by either Allied Waste or Randy’s Environmental Services.

The City of Elk River provides every-other-week single stream recycling service. Your week of pick up will depend on where you live in the city and your haulers route. The City of Elk River also provides other recycling opportunities as well as a list of local recyclers.

Organics Recycling / Compost

The City of Elk River provides organic food waste recycling curbside service. Blue Bag Organics provides collection for any City of Elk River resident choosing to participate.

Elk River Clean Up Day

Elk River hosts two events per year - in the spring and fall. The spring event was held Saturday, April 28th and we had over 350 residents come to recycle items. Watch for more information about our fall event, likely at the end of October.

Items collected at this spring's event include:

Furniture & mattresses
Propane tanks
CFL light bulbs
Miscellaneous trash
Scrap metal
Document destruction

Please note that most items have a fee. See the Clean Up Day form for more information.
