Garbage and Recycling


The City of Elk River arranges for the collection of residential refuse, recycling, and organics. Under the current program, the city is divided into two collection districts. Each district is served by either Allied Waste or Randy’s Environmental Services. More information on Elk River's garbage collection services can be found here.


The City of Elk River provides every-other-week single stream recycling service.Your collection week depends on where you live in the city and your haulers route. Organics Recycling/Compost               

The City of Elk River provides organic food waste recycling curbside service. Blue Bag Organics provides collection for any City of Elk River resident who wishes to participate. Please click here for more information.

City Clean Up Events

Elk River hosts two events per year - in the spring and fall. The fall clean up is set for Saturday, October 20 from 8:00 a.m. to noon, at the City of Elk River Maintenance Facility, located at 19000 Proctor Ave. All Sherburne County residents (with proof of residency) are encouraged to take advantage of this free, or low cost opportunity to properly recycle and dispose of unwanted household items.

Sherburne County Household Hazardous Waste Events

Dispose of household chemicals, paint, cleaners, batteries and more at the county's numerous events.
