Citizen's Academy

The Elk River Police Department Citizen’s Academy is a program designed to help strengthen the partnership between public safety professionals and the community by sharing information and promoting a better understanding of public safety services. It is an eight-week program that meets one night a week for three hours. 

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Defensive Tactics
  • Patrol Functions
  • Investigative Functions
  • SWAT
  • Firearms and Range Shooting
  • Drug Trends
  • Ride-A-Long
  • Evidence Processing/Crime Analysis
  • Crime Prevention/CSO/Reserves
  • Much more!

To participate in the Academy, preference will be given to those who work or live in Elk River. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and pass a criminal background check. Applications are available here or can be picked up at the Elk River Police Department, 13077 Orono Parkway NW. Applications can be submitted in person at the police department or emailed to lcanton@elkrivermn.govby Friday, December 29th at 4:30 p.m. Applications can also be mailed, but must be postmarked by December 29, 2017.
